5 Cooking & Kitchen Hacks for Busy Homes
With the evenings lasting longer and your summer calendar filling up with spontaneous BBQs or last-minute trips, time in the kitchen can be sparse. So, we’ve teamed up with Hoover to bring you five speedy cooking and kitchen hacks to help you cook the way you live.
1. A little bit extra
When you do have a bit of extra time to cook a wholesome summer meal, make a couple of extra portions, they can go straight into a reusable container and into the freezer. It may seem like a bit of extra chopping but gives you more time to enjoy your favourite summer activities, providing a wellbeing boost! Looking for some freezer recipe inspiration? Have a look here.
2. Crispy baked potato
The ultimate summer comfort food, baked potatoes are the dream for al fresco dining. When you’re running tight on time pop your potato in the microwave for 8 minutes, turning once in between, brush it with some olive oil and salt and pepper and get it straight into the oven for 20 minutes. The result? The perfect baked potato, soft on the inside, crispy on the outside and ready in less than half the usual time.
3. Freeze the herbs!
Leftover bag of herbs? Chop them up like usual and pop them into an ice cube tray, fill it up with water or even olive oil and then into the freezer. This is the perfect hack for when you want to add some coriander to a curry or thyme to roast potatoes.
4. Your new best friend – kitchen scissors!
A blunt knife? We think not. Grab a handy pair of kitchen scissors that will help you chop anything from chicken to chorizo or even the herbs for your freezer tray!
5. Stock Up
So, you’ve got spare meals in the freezer but it’s always ideal to stock up on the cupboard essentials, offering more variety when you’re short on time! You can’t go wrong with the classic beans on toast but why not spice it up with a manchego cheese topping?
